Floors and ceilings are design elements that define any space. There are many materials you can choose that will bring value and looks beautiful in your house.
Don’t put on floors with formaldehyde glues and hormone-disrupting vinyl; they pollute the air and can be harmful.
Floor square feet
It’s easy to work out floor square feet, you just take the length and width of a room and divide by two. If your room isn’t neatly placed within this box, break up the room into smaller rectangles to look at them one by one and add it up.
Getting accurate measurements are part of every home improvement project and allows you to figure out how much material you will need. If you can learn to count square footage correctly, you’ll be able to save time and money on buying the right amount of flooring, paint, or tile – not to mention the waste (that typically makes up 10% of square footage! Flooring professionals advise ordering 5-10% more than you need so you have complete renovation, and whatever material remains can be reused.
Ceiling square feet
Home sq ft refers to the area of floor and ceiling. Knowing both can help home owners do things such as figure out how much paint they’ll need to paint their ceiling and design decisions such as where to put lights. Ceilings can be made of fiberboard and plastic panels, metal, and other materials that are moisture-resistant and acoustic than cheaper ceilings like fiberboard.
But if it is used in square footage calculation of a room’s square footage calculation, the ceiling of a room must have at least seven feet over half of its area. Lofts or finished attics that can be reached by a regular staircase can also count while crawl spaces don’t count.
Laminate flooring
It’s no secret that laminate flooring is an attractive substitute for hardwood and engineered wood floors with the corresponding textures, hues and patterns at lower prices. Moreover, laminate also easy to maintain and resistant to stain, scratches and fade.
Laminate floors also have a core layer of high density fiberboard that is moisture-repellent and dimensionally stable. There is then a gilding layer with printed wood grain patterns for a natural look and then an extra coating applied to stop the fading and staining.
A lot of laminate flooring comes with an AC rating that will tell you how much moisture the flooring will take before it starts warping or cracking. The floating roof does have to be waterproof, but you should add additional water proof underlayment if you are building below grade or where the humidity or moisture content is high. An underlayment can also quiet down noise produced by laminate flooring and give better feel.
Hardwood flooring
The hardwood floor is a classic touch to any room in which it adorns (and so are other flooring materials like vinyl). Plus, they are extremely diverse in color, colour and texture to suit most styles of home décor.
Wood floors can be stained with elegance by darkening the grain of the wood with a penetration pigment that works into the wood grain and brings even more dimension and beauty, all while shielding it from wear and tear. This procedure preserves floors from scratches, scuffs and wear – great for preserving color and making floors last longer!
Depending on what you prefer to install, your wood floors might be a domestic wood species such as hickory and oak, which is a great choice for a high traffic room because it’s hard and has shock absorption and stain resistance.
Engineered hardwood is constructed of a combination of natural wood veneer and engineered hardwood plywood core of interlocking plies which helps to ensure it will not warp or stretch as it is exposed to changes in humidity.
